Free COVID-19 Resources

With the announcement of school closures and a widespread shift to remote learning, we wanted to support teachers by providing FREE resources to get them through this challenging time:
Tele-Teach Consultations

Are you concerned about how to cover content you didn’t address this school year because the world flipped on its axis? Befuddled by how to create engaging experiences through distance learning? Determined to support your students but could use some help brainstorming ideas or finding resources in this new world? Van Andel Institute for Education is offering teachers a FREE 30-minute online consultation to help them navigate these difficult times. K-12 educators are invited to reach out to one of our project coaches—friendly teachers who are experts in inquiry-based learning and who can assist with the transition to a remote teaching environment. Simply fill out the form and VAI will be in touch to schedule your session. You bring the content needs; we’ll bring the project!

Virtual Project: Prevent the Spread

Prevent the Spread is a FREE virtual Blue Apple project which gives teachers everything they need to conduct their lesson remotely. The unit includes an instructional slideshow as well as several online features to help students understand the current pandemic. Once they discover how germs can be passed from one person to the next, students will do their part in preventing the spread by creating a unique public service announcement. A teacher guide provides support with leading students as they explore the information and even includes suggested content connections for math, science, English language arts, and social studies. Prevent the Spread, which is geared toward students in grades 3-8, can be downloaded for free at blueappleteacher.org.

Keep Curiosity Alive!

Keep Curiosity Alive! is a free compilation of science experiments, engineering challenges, tech endeavors, and reading lessons which parents can implement with their children during school closure. These engaging activities help students stay connected to the learning mindset even during this unusual period. This list also includes links to virtual tours, read alouds, streaming programs, and other educational resources that teachers can use to encourage and motivate students while outside the classroom. Keep Curiosity Alive! is updated every week with new content and, most importantly, is completely free!
